Frequently asked questions
Questions about this answer
- Why is monthly the stated cadence?
- Because the LEIE itself is refreshed monthly: OIG replaces the downloadable file with the current complete database each month. A check against last quarter's file can miss an exclusion added since, so the cadence follows the file cycle.
- Should new hires and vendors be checked before the monthly cycle?
- OIG's stated guidance pairs monthly checks with checks in connection with any new enrollments. Compliance programs commonly apply the same pairing to new hires, contractors, and vendors: a check at start, then the monthly cadence.
- Does a no-match result settle that a person is not excluded?
- A result is scoped to the file version and the identifiers checked. The LEIE may lack identifiers for some records, and name-only similarity or absence is not an identity conclusion. State Medicaid exclusion lists and SAM.gov are separate sources with their own files.
